While the ARM move makes perfect sense for Laptops and mid range desktops I wonder whether the Pro level Macs are even on the Apple transition roadmap? Will apple go to the bother of developing their own GPUs for the most demanding of 3d and compute workloads? How about PCIe cards for the Mac Pro? It seems unlikely they’d do that for a few thousand units. The iMac Pro and Mac Pro are altogether different. The 28 core Xeon was over $7000 and Intel sell that to all the other PC OEMs too.Īpple sells overwhelmingly Laptops and desktops which are mostly laptops built into nice screens (iMacs) and there really isn’t a massive amount of difference in the internals other than form factor. How could they offer a range of desktop chips like 8, 12, 16, 24, 28 for such a small market without the unit costs being ridiculously high. I find it difficult to believe Apple will spend huge amounts of processor development on, charitably, tens of thousands of ‘Pro’ Mac sales. Apple’s Mac market share has steadfastly refused to grow in significant numbers and this means the numbers of buyers of iMac Pro and Mac Pros are incredibly low. Seems to me that going back to the App Store the store will be a major revenue driver also for iOS based games - for that sure the gpu is sufficientīut the Intel Mac user base while bigger than PPC it’s not significantly bigger. While knowing arm super computers extinct so technically speaking Apple should not have an issue generating a personal computer that is fast just with arm cpus I am not so sure about GPUĪpple links ram CPU and gpu smartly together thus making photo editing on an iPadPro in Lightroom faster but can those gpus seriously compete with nvidia rtx or general work station cpus ?

The maya demo was a little weak - particularly the shaded viewport aspect lol I am curious if in 4 years they can produce a macpro that has the same combined cpu power as the current macpro or an intel pc with a thread ripped.Īpples app store will be a blessing for them because how easy it till be to port software.Ĭurrently iOS apps are ported via catalyst to intel MacOS but soon that porting is not needed.Īlso their Rosetta Stone 2 app is interesting.
